At Wink, we know an eye doctor visit can be scary for children, especially first-time visits to a clinic.
At our eye clinics in St. Louis Park and Chanhassen, fear melts away when your child steps through our doors. Our bright and colorful space immediately sets kids at ease and our doctors take pride in making children’s exams feel safe and enjoyable. Exams are fun here and so are the glasses!

CHILDREN'S EYE CARE

We’re often asked, “When should my children have their eyes checked?”

Our eye doctors recommend a child’s first eye exam at 9 months. If everything is normal, our eye doctors will want to see them again at age 3, then just before kindergarten, and every year after. Over 80% of learning is visual, which is why it's important to start looking at those eyes at a young age.

And the next question is, “How can you even DO an exam on a young child?”

It’s a breeze! Our optometrists look for all the same things as they would in adults, but modify the exam for children. There is a series of reflexes visible with the right equipment that allows us to objectively measure eye alignment, prescription, and overall health. It’s quick and easy for you and your little one!

Gone are the days of getting called “four eyes” on the playground! Our eye doctors make glasses cool! For kids needing glasses to see their best, we make sure they are EXCITED about the new accessory and will be confident on the playground or on the soccer field.

At our vision clinics in St. Louis Park and Chanhassen, you’ll find a wide variety of children and teen frame lines in our optical departments. From the classics to bold colors and styles to nearly indestructible frames for the most active children in your life, we carry frames to fit your child’s lifestyle and personality.

Eyewear should be fun, and at Wink Family Eye Care it is!

Children's Contact Lenses

There are many safe and healthy contact lens options for children. Contact lenses provide a great alternative to glasses, which can fall off or break during a flip at gymnastics, a twirl during a dance routine, a header on the soccer field, or other physical activities your child may enjoy.

Our doctors often recommend daily, single-use lenses. These lenses are extra safe because they avoid infection-causing bacteria by eliminating contact solution and cases!

Corneal reshaping technology is also a great option proven to slow the progression of near-sightedness. Our eye doctors can design customized contact lenses that reshapes the surface of the eye while your child sleeps. In the morning, vision is 20/20!

We have fit children as young as 5 years in contacts and do not have age limits at Wink.  We will take great care to ensure you and your child are 100% confident in the insertion, removal and care of your contacts before you leave our vision centers in St. Louis Park or Chanhassen.
